Introduction – Issue #6

The latest issue of One Louder Magazine is finally here! Unfortunately, my ‘real’ job takes precedence over OLM and I’ve been very, very busy for the past ~6 months. Things have calmed down to a dull roar and I finally found time to focus on this issue.

We have two excellent interviews lined up here. The first is with a good friend of mine, Steve Davis, who left Seattle, WA for Phoenix, AZ to pursue his calling as a guitar builder or luthier. Just a few short years later and Steve is now a teacher at the same school he studied: the renowned Roberto-Venn School Of Luthiery. In addition to teaching, he builds custom guitars (including building one for Mårten Hagström from metal band Meshuggah). Steve also built an absolutely beautiful bass for his brother (and my bassist) and I have an order in for a custom guitar…can’t wait!

The second interview came about kind of by accident. Melissa Zeigler works as Head of Publicity and Artist Development at Powderfinger Promotions. She contacted me some time back, asking me to listen to some bands on their roster and suggesting I interview one of the bands for One Louder Magazine. Instead of interviewing one of the bands, I proposed interviewing her, finding out what her job entails and how bands benefit from Powderfinger Promotions. (more…)

Interview with Steve Davis

In January 2009, Steven Davis was chopping up meat at a local grocery store in Seattle, WA. A month later, he and his wife were living in Phoenix, AZ, where he began study to be a luthier at Roberto-Venn. In 2011, Steve built a guitar for Meshuggah guitarist Mårten Hagström (which may be seen on the DVD of their latest release, Koloss). And today, Steve is a full-time teacher at Roberto-Venn and builds custom guitars, as well. Check out the interview with Steve below, then check out his custom work at EIR Guitars. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions, Steve! (more…)

Interview with Melissa Zeigler

Music is ingrained in Melissa Zeigler. She started training as a classical pianist at the age of eight and today she is Head of Publicity and Artist Development at Powderfinger Promotions. Melissa has handled bands’ booking, licensing, placement and promotion, in addition to landing album reviews at numerous international publications. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions, Melissa! (more…)
